Finally a Democrat Politician we agree with! Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Public Schools CEO Dr. Janice Jackson on Sunday insisted that teachers should return to the classroom on Monday amid the heated dispute between CPS and the Chicago Teachers Union.
Despite the Mayor’s orders, the unions refuse to send the teachers back to in-person learning until every teacher has been vaccinated. They are also requesting that teachers who are immune-compromised have the option to be able to stay home and continue remote learning for the foreseeable future.
The original plan for the Chicago Public Schools was to have all teachers return to in-person learning beginning Feb. 1 return to the classroom for in-person learning, but the Chicago Teachers Union passed a vote earlier this month that instructed its members to continue remote learning instead. The decision affects roughly 10,000 teachers and about 65,000 students who were set to report on Monday.
Chicago Public Schools CEO Janice Jackson warned that teachers who refuse to show up for in-person instruction will be kicked out of the district’s remote learning computer system, Google Suites.
